Hybrid work schedules offer flexibility but cause inconsistent office occupancy. On low-attendance days, entire departments or floors may remain empty while still consuming energy for lighting, heating, and cooling. Traditional office management systems cannot adapt quickly enough to these daily fluctuations, creating avoidable costs and making sustainability targets harder to reach.
E-SPOT combines high-frequency radar technology, edge computing, Husense radar sensors, the OptiBox embedded system, and the Offilancer optimization platform. The system collects real-time occupancy and movement data through a wireless radar mesh without using privacy-invasive cameras. Local AI and genetic algorithms then allocate workspaces based on live occupancy, team collaboration needs, and company policies, while integrating with Building Automation Systems to control HVAC and lighting.
E-SPOT is projected to deliver more than 30% energy savings, reducing carbon emissions and operational costs. The developed technologies are planned to be installed and tested in an operational office environment at KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, providing a practical setting to measure performance. Beyond sustainability, the system supports better team alignment and spontaneous encounters, helping office spaces stay efficient, productive, and worth the commute.
